Allahabad High Court gave a big verdict on Monday in the Gyanvapi case of Varanasi. Rejecting the petition filed by the mosque committee, the court ordered the worship to continue in the basement of Gyanvapi, which is called Vyasji's room. This is being considered a big relief for the Hindu party. Not only this, the High Court has invalidated the decision of Mulayam Singh Yadav led government to ban worship in the southern basement of Gyanvapi Masjid in 1993.
High Court rejected the petition of Muslim side
Varanasi district court had on January 31 given permission for worship in the Vyas basement of Gyanvapi Masjid. This decision was challenged by the Muslim side in the High Court. The High Court rejected the petition of the Muslim side. The High Court upheld the decision of the Varanasi District Judge appointing the Varanasi District Magistrate as the receiver of Vyas Ji's basement and allowing puja in the basement. A bench of Justice Rohit Ranjan Aggarwal said that the action taken by the then state government in 1993 to stop worship without any written order in the southern basement of Gyanvapi Masjid in Varanasi was illegal.
What did the High Court say in its decision?
The Vyas family had been worshiping in the Vyas basement for a long time. But in 1993, Mulayam Singh Yadav's government banned the puja. Justice Rohit Ranjan Aggarwal, in his judgment, said that the state government's move to bar the Vyas family from performing religious worship and rituals since 1993 was wrong. Stopping the puja in the basement would be against the interest of the devotees. Now the Muslim side has filed a petition in the Supreme Court on Gyanvapi.
