Lawyers will call the judge 'My Lord' instead of 'Sir'! Allahabad High Court passed a resolution amidst the tussle in the Bar Association

Allahabad High Court : The laws in India from the British era have finally been changed to the Indian Judiciary Code with amendments from 1 July 2024, but the new law has not amended the way judges have been addressed for years. There is often controversy over the way judges are addressed. Finally, the lawyers have decided to call the judges 'Sir' instead of 'My Lord' when their demands are not met.

The lawyers of Allahabad High Court Bar Association of Uttar Pradesh have gone on strike for the last two days over several demands and this strike is continuing even today. Due to this strike of lawyers, the entire work has come to a standstill. This claim is now becoming a cause of controversy.

Judge vs Lawyer Battle:

Now this strike has become of lawyers against the judge. This is because the Bar Association has decided in a new proposal that now the judges will not be addressed as 'My Lord' or 'Your Lordship' during the hearing of any case in the High Court. The Bar Association said that it has now decided to address them as 'Sir' instead of 'My Lord' or 'Your Lordship'.

Actually, the Bar Association held a meeting regarding its demands and put its point in front of senior judges including the Chief Justice (CJI). However, this conversation between the judges and the Bar Association did not reach any conclusion and ultimately failed. In such a situation, it now seems that there is a rift between the judge and the lawyer.

However, on this dispute between the judges and the Bar Association, the lawyers say that the Bar Association has come together against the behavior of the judges and the arbitrary hearing process. Giving information on the matter, Allahabad High Court Bar Association President Anil Tiwari said that a judge should step back from becoming God and should judge like a common man.

He further said that this is the reason why the Bar Association has decided that lawyers should address the judge as Sir and not 'My Lord'. A resolution has also been passed by the Bar Council in this regard. Allahabad High Court Bar Association President Anil Tiwari also said that lawyers have been boycotting the Allahabad High Court for the last 2 days. Due to this, there has been strictness on lawyers doing government and private practice.

Apart from this, if any lawyer is present physically or through video conferencing during the boycott, action will be taken against him as well. Not only this, a show cause notice has also been issued to all the lawyers present during this time.
