Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court has given a big relief to Bollywood King Shahrukh Khan in the defamation case filed against his film 'Raees'. In fact, the High Court has canceled the order of the lower court, in which the heirs of Ahmedabad's notorious gangster Abdul Latif were allowed to be included as plaintiffs in an 8-year-old defamation case against Shahrukh Khan and the makers of his film 'Raees'.
What is the whole matter?
In January 2017, Bollywood film 'Raees' was released in which it was claimed that Shah Rukh Khan's role was based on Ahmedabad gangster Abdul Latif. In this case, Abdul Latif's son Mustaq filed a suit of Rs 101 crore with 18 percent interest against Red Chillies Entertainment and Shah Rukh Khan for defaming his father's image. However, in July 2020, the applicant Mustaq passed away.
After which in April-2022, the Ahmedabad City Civil Court approved the application to include Mushtaq's wife and two daughters as plaintiffs in the defamation case. Which was challenged by Shahrukh Khan in the High Court.
However, the High Court has cancelled the lower court's order dismissing the defamation suit after the death of the complainant. It has also ordered to dispose of the application within two days i.e. by July 13.
