A big update has come regarding the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The Indian cricket team will not go to Pakistan. They can demand to hold their matches in Sri Lanka or Dubai. A source in the Board of Control for Cricket in India told news agency ANI that the Indian team will not go to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. Let us tell you here that Pakistan is going to host the ICC Champions Trophy in February-March 2025. Pakistan has also started preparations for this and has also submitted a draft schedule to the ICC to organize Team India's match in Lahore.
However, no official statement has come out yet on the Indian cricket team leaving for Pakistan. But now a report has confirmed that the Indian team is unlikely to reach the Champions Trophy. So much so that the ACC is demanding from the BCCI. BCCI sources have told news agency ANI that there is no possibility of the Indian cricket team going to Pakistan for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The BCCI will ask the ICC to organize the match in Dubai or Sri Lanka.
This makes it clear that like the Asia Cup 2023, the Champions Trophy 2025 may also have to be held in Pakistan under a hybrid model. Even in the press conference held by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah after the T20 World Cup 2024, he did not confirm whether the Indian team would go to Pakistan or not. However, Jay Shah has confirmed that the Indian team will play in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 under the leadership of Rohit Sharma.
The PCB suggested a hybrid model when Jay Shah, as the President of the Asian Cricket Council and Secretary of the BCCI, confirmed that the Indian team would not travel to Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup. Which was accepted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. Most of the matches including the final between India and other teams were held in Sri Lanka and some matches in Pakistan. In such a situation, the Champions Trophy can also be organized in this way.
PCB's draft proposal
The proposed list of dates and venues sent by the Pakistan Cricket Control Board (PCB) to the ICC is as follows. According to which this eight-team tournament will be held at three places. In which matches will be played in Karachi, Rawalpindi and Lahore from February 19 to March 9. It will start on February 19 while the final will be played on March 9. The 50-over format ICC event is making a comeback after 8 years. It will include the top eight teams of last year's ODI World Cup. The eight tees will be divided into two sets of four each. In which the top two teams from each group will reach the semi-finals. Host Pakistan is in Group A with arch-rivals India, Bangladesh and New Zealand. While Group B has England, South Africa, Australia and Afghanistan.
As per the proposed schedule, the Indian team is scheduled to begin its Champions Trophy campaign against Bangladesh in Lahore on February 20 , A day earlier, hosts Pakistan will kick off the tournament against New Zealand in Karachi on February 19. As per the schedule, all of India's matches will be held in Lahore. The match between India and Pakistan will be played on March 1, while India will play New Zealand on February 23. There are also reports that if India reaches the last four, it will hold its semi-final in Lahore. The round-robin stage will end on March 2 while the two semi-finals will be played in Karachi and Rawalpindi on March 5 and 6 respectively. The final match will be played in Lahore.
