New Delhi, July 11 (HS). Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has 'misbehaved' with the team's coaches during the T20 World Cup 2024. According to a report by Geo News, Afridi was found misbehaving with the coaches and management staff of the Pakistan cricket team.
Geo News further stated that an investigation is underway as to why the management staff did not take any action against the 24-year-old after his inappropriate behaviour. The news of Faridi's misbehaviour with the coaches came to light after former Pakistan cricketer Wahab Riaz broke his silence over his removal from the national selection committee formed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday confirmed that they have informed Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz that their services will no longer be required in the national selection committee.
Abdul Razzaq was part of the men's and women's selection committees, while Wahab was the selector of the men's team. The PCB's statement comes after Pakistan's early exit from the recently-concluded ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, where they were eliminated after the group stage, which included defeats against USA and India.
After being removed from the committee, Riyaz wrote on Instagram, “There is a lot I can say but I don’t want to be a part of the blame game.”
Along with his post on X, he also shared a letter which read, “My service as a member of the selection committee for PCB has come to an end, I just want to let my people know that I have served the game I love with utmost sincerity and faith and have given 100 per cent for the betterment of Pakistan cricket.”
“Everyone's vote had equal weight, we made selection decisions as a team and shared the responsibility of that process equally. It was an honour for me to contribute to it,” he said.
He also said that it was an honour to support head coach Gary Kirsten and the rest of the coaching group in their vision for the team.
He said, “I am confident that the team plan that the coaches have put in place will ensure that this team continues to grow into a dominant force as we move forward and I wish them all the best on this journey. I am thankful to those who have prayed for me. I wish the Pakistan cricket team every success for the future.”
Pakistan has confirmed the reconstitution of the selection committee and details about its composition will be announced soon.
