Mumbai heavy rain: Heavy rains in Mumbai have disrupted people's lives. Heavy rains that continued till 6 am have wreaked havoc in Mumbai. Many MLAs and Legislative Council members could not reach the Assembly due to which the proceedings of both the houses had to be adjourned. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday appealed to the people to avoid going out of their homes unless it is very important. He said that the Police Commissioner has also been asked not to allow anyone to come near the coastal area. The Army, Navy and Air Force have also been put on alert due to heavy rains in the city.
Many parts of Mumbai received more than 300 mm of rain till 7 am today, flooding roads and affecting train and flight services. Rains are still lashing many areas. Speaking to reporters about how Mumbai is trying to overcome these challenges, CM Eknath Shinde gave information about the measures taken by the municipal corporation and rescue forces.
CM appealed to the people
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that railway tracks have been submerged in water at many places and railway, NDRF and municipal corporation officials have removed a lot of water. Now trains are running. The Chief Minister said, 461 motor pumps of the Municipal Corporation and 200 motor pumps of the Railways are running. I am in touch with all the departments since morning. Central and Harbor rail line services have started. I have reviewed the entire state. Orange alert has been declared in coastal areas. Army, Navy and Air Force have been put on alert. He said that apart from this, seven pumping stations are also being built in the city.
The chief minister said municipal officials have been deployed in waterlogged areas, while schools have been closed and NDRF teams have been alerted to prevent any untoward incident. He said Mumbai is the only city where micro tunnels have been built, allowing more water to drain out.
More than 50 flights cancelled, weather department issues warning
Mumbai has received heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours and the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Konkan BEST. Heavy rains in Mumbai have forced people to walk in waist-deep water in some areas. Long queues of cars are also seen on the roads of Mumbai. All government, private and municipal schools and colleges across the city have been closed. More than 50 flights have been cancelled and airlines have warned passengers to leave for the airport only after checking their flight status.
