Ranchi, July 9 (HS). Dr. Ramesh Sharan, a famous economist and former Vice Chancellor of Vinoba Bhave University of Jharkhand, died in a hospital in Kolkata late on Monday night. On Tuesday, Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed grief over his untimely demise and called it an irreparable loss for Jharkhand. He posted on Twitter that I am personally deeply saddened by the death of Dr. Ramesh Sharan. This is a huge loss for Jharkhand. I pray to Marang Buru for peace of his soul and strength to his family to bear this grief.
Economist Jean Dreze condoled the death of Dr Ramesh Sharan and described him as a people's economist who worked for the public good. He said that he was committed to the welfare of marginalized communities. Dr Sharan was a kind person. We will remember him fondly as a great teacher, scholar and friend.
Famous economist Dr. Ramesh Sharan died in a Kolkata hospital at the age of 69. He had a lung infection due to which he was ill for the last seven-eight days. First he was admitted to Medica Hospital in Ranchi and when his condition did not improve, he was taken to Kolkata by air ambulance. He is survived by his wife and two daughters. Ranchi's famous doctor Ankit Srivastava is his son-in-law. Dr. Sharan was also an advisor to the Supreme Court. Dr. Ramesh Sharan was the former Vice Chancellor of Vinoba Bhave University. His death has caused a wave of mourning in Jharkhand.
