Rajya Sabha elections today: Elections for 15 seats of Rajya Sabha are going to be held today on 27th February. This election is going to be held for 15 Rajya Sabha seats in 3 states of the country. There are 10 seats in Uttar Pradesh (UP), 4 in Karnataka and one seat in Himachal Pradesh, where voting will take place today.
Voting will take place today from 9 am to 4 pm. Counting of votes will start in the evening. Cross voting may take place in Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka. In Himachal Pradesh, the victory of the Congress candidate is considered almost certain. In view of cross voting, parties are keeping a close watch on their leaders.

For the 10 Rajya Sabha seats of Uttar Pradesh, BJP has fielded eight candidates and opposition Samajwadi Party (SP) has fielded three candidates. Both BJP and SP have the figures of sending seven and three members each to Rajya Sabha unopposed.
Since BJP has fielded Sanjay Seth as the eighth candidate, there is a possibility of a contest on one seat. A candidate requires approximately 37 first preference votes to be elected to the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh.
The ruling Congress in Karnataka has shifted its leaders to hotels to fill four seats. The five candidates in the fray are Ajay Maken, Syed Naseer Hussain and GC Chandrashekhar (all Congress), Narayana Bundge (BJP) and Kupendra Reddy (JD(S)). Amidst the threats of cross voting, all the parties have declared those leaders as whips.
In Himachal Pradesh, Congress has issued a whip to all its leaders to vote for party candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi.
The tenure of 50 Rajya Sabha members from 13 states ends on April 2, while the remaining six members from two states are scheduled to retire on April 3.
