Dehradun, July 08 (HS). Uttarakhand Congress Committee has complained to the Election Commission accusing the BJP government of pressurizing the local administration in the Mangalore and Badrinath by-elections. Uttarakhand Congress President Karan Mahara said that the Congress workers are being called to the police station and harassed by the local administration under the pressure of the BJP government. He said that Mohammad, who was a councilor from Pathanpura of Mangalore Municipal Council, is being called to the police station and harassed by the local administration in a 20-year-old case under the pressure of the BJP government. Whereas in this case he has been proved innocent in the court. The court has acquitted him. He said that earlier no cognizance was taken by the police station in the 2017 assembly elections, 2019 Lok Sabha elections and 2022 assembly and 2024 Lok Sabha elections, but in the current by-elections, the BJP is harassing Congress workers in such cases, assuming defeat as certain. The Election Commission should take cognizance of this.
Congress workers are not going to be scared of this police action
He also said that Congress workers and the general public are not going to be scared by this police action. Congress President Karan Mahara has demanded effective steps to take action against such officers and employees as per the rules of the election code of conduct in order to prevent misuse of government machinery in the by-election and to ensure fair and democratic elections.
BJP is putting pressure to stop election meetings
A delegation of Congress leaders led by Uttarakhand Congress Vice President Organization and Administration Mathuradutt Joshi met the Chief Election Officer. In the memorandum presented to the Chief Election Officer, Mathuradutt Joshi said that by-elections are to be held on July 10 in 4-Badrinath and 33-Mangalore assembly constituencies. In such a situation, the BJP is misusing the government machinery and pressurizing the local administration to stop the election meetings of the Congress. It is not appropriate to put pressure on the Congress candidate in any form during the elections.
Accused of distributing money and liquor to influence voters
The Congress delegation alleged that the BJP has indirectly increased the interference of people from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana by using money power in the Mangalore assembly by-election. Not only this, money and liquor are being openly distributed in the entire assembly constituency to influence the voters through people coming from outside states. Those who submitted the memorandum included State Vice President Organization Mathura Dutt Joshi, State General Secretary Yakub Siddiqui, spokesperson Sheeshpal Singh, Social Media Advisor Amarjit Singh, Awadhesh Pant of Freedom Fighter Organization, Metropolitan President Jaswinder Singh Gogi, Anurag Mittal, etc.
