According to the information received, firing continued for about 3 hours.

Some unidentified assailants started firing in Jiribam's Gularthal area at 3.30 am on Monday night. Security personnel also opened fire in retaliation. However, there is no news of any casualties in this firing so far. The firing continued till 7 am. After this incident, a large number of security personnel have been deployed in the surrounding residential areas.

Will meet people affected by violence in Manipur

After Assam, Rahul Gandhi will visit Manipur. He will talk to the violence-affected people in Jiribam, Churachandpur and Imphal in Manipur. Apart from this, he will visit the relief camp and also meet PCC leaders. He will thank the people for their support in the Lok Sabha elections. Congress won both the seats in Manipur. Rahul Gandhi has visited Manipur thrice while this is his first visit as the leader of the opposition in the Northeast.

Small and big violence has been happening in Manipur for about 1 year. Recently, an incident of violence took place on 6 June. Rahul Gandhi also raised the issue of Manipur violence in the Lok Sabha. Rahul Gandhi targeted PM Modi and said that PM Modi goes everywhere but has not visited Manipur. More than 200 people have been killed and thousands have become homeless in Manipur since the communal violence on 3 May.

Violence erupted in Manipur when tribals organised a march in the hill district of the state demanding inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe (ST). Despite all efforts to stop ethnic violence in Manipur, the matter remains serious. Incidents of firing keep coming up here every day.
