Supreme Court on NEET: The Supreme Court will hear today a batch of petitions related to the controversial medical entrance exam NEET-UG 2024. The petitions include those alleging malpractice in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) exam held on May 5 and seeking a re-examination.
The Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Friday told the court that cancelling the exams without any evidence would have very adverse effects as it could seriously affect lakhs of genuine students.
According to the Supreme Court website, a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra will hear a total of 38 petitions related to the examination. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts NEET-UG for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions.
This exam was conducted on 5th May this year. In which more than 23 lakh students participated at 4750 examination centers in 571 cities.
After allegations of irregularities including question paper leak, protests took place in many cities and the opposition made it an issue. Many cases were also filed in the court regarding malpractice in the examination. The Union Education Ministry and NTA have issued separate affidavits opposing these petitions. In which a demand has been made not to cancel the examination. It has been said in the affidavit that no evidence of large-scale malpractice has been found and the CBI is investigating the matter.
