Dhaka: Sri Lanka has decided to lift the ban on the entry of foreign ships in its maritime areas from next year. Sri Lanka has imposed this ban after concerns raised by India and the US after reports of Chinese espionage. However, now Sri Lanka will bow to China and allow its ships to enter.
There were reports that Chinese ships were using Sri Lankan waters to spy on India. India had expressed concern to Sri Lanka about this. America also increased pressure. After which Sri Lanka banned the entry of foreign ships. Now Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Ali Sabari has announced that we cannot make different rules for different countries. We cannot stop only China while we can allow other countries. In January this year, Sri Lanka banned the entry of foreign exploration ships. Which will now be removed next year. The Sri Lankan Foreign Minister said that we will allow foreign ships to enter our ports for research etc.
