Punjab Weather Update: Monsoon has been active in Punjab for the last 10 days. Despite this, drought conditions persist in 4 districts of the state. Minimum rainfall has been recorded between 30 and 45 degrees. Whereas normal and excess rainfall has been recorded in the remaining districts. The Meteorological Department estimates that this year the monsoon will be more than normal. Along with this, the department has issued a rain alert in 4 districts adjoining Himachal Pradesh today.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Punjab has received 64% more rainfall from July 1 to 7. In the last 7 days, 45.1 mm of rain has been recorded in Punjab, while the average rainfall is 27.5 mm. Along with this, drought conditions persist in 4 districts of Punjab.
Ferozepur district has received 53 per cent less rainfall. On an average, 15.4 mm of rain falls here, whereas this year only 7.3 mm of rain has been recorded. Similarly, 45 per cent less rain was recorded in Moga, 38 per cent in Hoshiarpur and 41 per cent in SBS Nagar.
A yellow alert has been issued due to rain in four districts of Punjab adjoining Himachal Pradesh – Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr and Rupnagar. There is a possibility of heavy rain. While all other districts are likely to remain cloudy and receive normal rainfall. The Meteorological Department will keep issuing alerts from time to time regarding this.
