Cyclonic storm causes rain in North India, 22 people died in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar

New Delhi: Torrential rains have caused widespread devastation in North India and East India and many rivers have flooded. River levels have risen in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar. A total of 22 people have lost their lives in rain-related disasters in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, while 24.5 lakh people are in trouble in 30 districts due to flood-like situation in Assam.

The Amarnath Yatra has been stopped due to torrential rains in Jammu and Kashmir in North India. Both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes leading to the holy cave have been closed. The devotees are being sent back to the base camp. The devotees will be allowed to proceed only after the rain stops. Apart from this, a 30-year-old woman was under stress due to torrential rains in Poonch district. Her body was recovered from Keri Kangra in Mendhar subdivision of Poonch district. 62 roads have been closed due to torrential rains in Jammu and Kashmir, 154 transformers have been damaged.

Uttar Pradesh received 18.3 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours. A total of 14 people died in various rain-related incidents in the state. Heavy rains occurred in 45 out of 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh. Saraswati recorded the highest rainfall of 65.5 mm. Apart from this, Kosi river is flowing above the danger mark in Supaul, Basantpur, Khagaria and Beldaur. Similarly, the water level of Kamala river has reached a worrying level in Madhubani, Jaynagar and Janjpur. The water of Gandad river in Gopalganj has crossed the red mark.

Nine people have died due to lightning in six districts of Bihar. Incidents of lightning were reported in Jehanabad, Madhepura, East Champaran, Rohtas, Saran and Supaul districts. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has given financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh each to the families affected by this tragedy. A compensation of Rs 4 lakh has been announced.

Apart from this, rivers are flowing above the danger mark in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand as well. The water level of the Alka river in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand rose by two meters in an hour, due to which many houses on the river bank were submerged in water and panic spread among the people. The system has repeatedly asked the people on the river bank to move to safer places. Red alert has been declared in Uttarakhand for the next 48 hours. Due to torrential rains, the Bhagirathi river has also started flowing on both the banks. The risk of landslides has increased in many hilly areas. Light rain continued throughout the day in the capital Delhi today. Due to torrential rains in Assam for the last few days, many rivers have been flooded. Most of the rivers in Assam are flowing above the danger mark. More than 24.5 lakh people are in trouble in 30 districts. Floods occurred in three districts including Kamrup, Diburgadh. So far this year, more than 62 people have died due to floods in Assam. As of Saturday, 114 animals have died in Kaziranga National Park while 95 have been rescued.
