Indore, July 6 (HS). Water Resources Minister Tulsiram Silawat on Saturday personally met Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla during his Indore visit and requested him to sanction funds for the conservation and upgradation of the old building of King Edward Memorial Medical School under Indore's MGM Medical College.
Minister Silavat informed that MGM Medical College Indore was established about 150 years ago in the name of King Edward Memorial Medical School. The building of this college was built about 150 years ago in the princely era in the memory of King Edward. In which the then hospital and medical school were operated. Which was one of the 5 major medical schools (colleges) of India. This building is still located in the medical college campus, which has reached a ruinous state due to lack of conservation. This building is currently in a dilapidated state, which is our responsibility to preserve it as a historical heritage. From time to time, efforts were also made to repair and maintain it and to maintain its original form, but due to lack of funds, the said work was not possible.
Minister Silawat informed that presently, for its conservation, maintenance and preservation of its original form, a project report has been prepared and submitted by the Architectural Heritage Division, Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage, in which an estimate of Rs. 3 crore 77 lakh 4 thousand 218 has been presented by them for all the aforesaid works.
Keeping in view the sentiments of the citizens of Indore city, Minister Silavat requested Deputy Chief Minister Shukla to approve the amount as per the proposal to preserve the said building and cherish it as the heritage of Indore city.
