Guwahati, 05 July (HS). More than 21 lakh people in 29 districts of Assam have been badly affected by the floods. Relief and rescue operations are being carried out on a war footing in 3,208 villages of the state. More than 40 thousand people are living in relief camps. At the same time, 247 relief camps and 451 relief distribution centers have been opened by the administration. This year the death toll due to floods has reached 62.
The Assam government's Fire and Emergency Service, SDRF, NDRF as well as the district administration are engaged in relief and rescue work on a large scale. Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Water Resources Minister Piyush Hazarika and many other ministers and MLAs of the government are engaged in monitoring the relief and rescue work.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister said through social media on Friday, “I visited several places including Tengakhat in Dibrugarh district. The floods have disrupted connectivity and damaged houses. We are working on a war footing to restore connectivity as soon as possible. District administrations across Assam are working diligently to provide emergency relief measures to the flood-affected victims.”
The district commissioner in Goalpara is actively providing emergency relief, including health check-ups, distribution of baby food and regular supply of essential commodities. Officials are regularly visiting the site to ensure effective implementation of relief activities and promptly address any emerging needs.”
