Kolkata, 04 July (HS). The hearing of the defamation case filed by West Bengal Governor Dr. CV Anand Bose against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been postponed once again. Now the next hearing date in this case has been fixed on July 10.
Earlier on Wednesday, the matter first came up before a single-judge bench of Justice Krishna Rao, but was then adjourned till Thursday. Justice Krishna Rao directed that the media houses on whose reports the Governor's defamation case is based should also be made parties to the case.
When the matter came up for hearing again on Thursday, Governor Bose's counsel Dheeraj Trivedi drew the court's attention to the fact that the matter was not yet listed in the records of the Calcutta High Court. Following this, Justice Rao adjourned the proceedings and fixed July 10 as the next date of hearing.
Apart from the Chief Minister, Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh and two recently elected MLAs Sayantika Banerjee and Rayat Hussam Sarkar have also been named in the case.
Raj Bhavan sources said Kunal Ghosh has been made a party for his comments about the Governor in a media house. Similarly, the names of two MLAs have been included for their comments about the Governor regarding their swearing-in ceremony. The case is based on the recent comments made by the Chief Minister, in which he said that women are afraid to go to the Raj Bhavan due to recent incidents. The Chief Minister had made this statement while supporting the decision of the newly-elected MLAs not to go to the Raj Bhavan.
