Two accused in POTA case acquitted due to lack of evidence


Ranchi, 04 July (HS). The court of Ranchi Civil Court's Chief Justice Commissioner cum Special Judge of POTA case, Diwakar Pandey, on Thursday acquitted two accused in the POTA (Prevention of Terrorist Act) case due to lack of evidence. The hearing of this case was going on for 22 years.

The court has acquitted Dara Chandravanshi and Ramadhar Ram, who were facing trial, due to lack of sufficient evidence. Both are residents of Garhwa district. During the trial, 24 witnesses were presented by the prosecution, including two IOs, doctors, police personnel involved in the raiding team and local people. Out of these, seven local witnesses turned hostile during testimony. The accused benefited from this.

A case was registered in 2002 in Ranka police station of Garhwa district under POTA Act regarding the incident. On 21 December 2001, the then in-charge of China OP, Sanjay Singh, received information on wireless that some miscreants were firing on the China picket. Ramchandra Sahi was killed in this.
