Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader and former CM Hemant Soren will take oath as the 13th Chief Minister of Jharkhand on July 7. He will take oath along with his entire cabinet ministers. Some new faces will also be included in Hemant Soren's cabinet. On Wednesday, Champai Soren submitted his resignation from the post of CM to the Governor. The Governor has accepted his resignation and asked him to work as the acting Chief Minister.
Hemant Soren staked claim to form government
With this, Hemant Soren has staked claim to form the government. He will take oath as CM on July 7. On Wednesday, the leaders of the JMM-led coalition unanimously elected him as the leader of the legislative party. Apart from Congress' Jharkhand in-charge Ghulam Ahmed Mir and party state president Rajesh Thakur, Hemant Soren's brother Basant and wife Kalpana also attended the meeting. After which Hemant Soren staked claim to form the government.
Hemant Soren spent five months in jail
Hemant Soren will become the 13th Chief Minister of Jharkhand after the swearing-in ceremony on July 7. Jharkhand was formed from Bihar on November 15, 2000. Since then, there have been 12 Chief Ministers. The new government in Jharkhand may have 12 ministers, while the current state cabinet had 10 ministers, but after the Lok Sabha elections, the JMM-led coalition in the state reduced its strength to 45 MLAs. JMM has 27 MLAs, Congress has 17 and RJD has one MLA. It is worth noting that Hemant Soren, son of JMM supremo Shibu Soren, was released from jail on June 28 after nearly five months. The High Court granted him bail in the money laundering case related to the alleged land scam. He resigned from the post of Chief Minister shortly before being arrested by the ED on January 31.

Two JMM MLAs, Nalin Soren and Joba Majhi, are now MPs, while MLA Sita Soren has resigned to contest the general elections on a BJP ticket. The JMM expelled two more MLAs, Chamra Linda from Bishnupur and Lobin Hambrom from Borio. Similarly, the BJP's strength in the Assembly has come down to 24, as two of its MLAs – Dhulu Mahato (Bagmara) and Manish Jaiswal (Hazaribagh) – are now MPs. Mandu MLA Jaiprakash Bhai Patel, who contested the elections after joining the Congress, has been expelled by the BJP.
