New Delhi, July 03 (HS). Food Corporation of India (FCI) has procured 266 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of wheat during the current Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2024-25. During this period, more than 22 lakh farmers have benefited. At the same time, Rs 61 lakh crore has been deposited in their bank accounts under the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution said in a statement issued on Wednesday that Food Corporation of India has successfully procured 266 lakh metric tonnes of wheat during the current Rabi marketing season 2024-25, which is more than the figure of 262 AAMT of the last Rabi marketing season. The ministry said that during this period more than 22 lakh farmers have benefited from the purchase of wheat, while about Rs 61 lakh crore has been deposited directly into the bank accounts of these farmers on the purchase of wheat at the minimum support price.
The ministry said that wheat procurement under the Rabi marketing season usually begins on April 1 every year. However, this year it was started almost a fortnight earlier in most of the wheat procuring states for the convenience of farmers. This achievement reflects the government's continued commitment to protect the interests of farmers and ensure food security for all. Along with this, it ensures food grain sufficiency of the country.
