ISRO Mars Mission-2: The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is now preparing to experiment with new and advanced technologies in its future Mars Mission-2. ISRO will make special use of Rotocopter (helicopter) for the first time with Mars Mission-2 lander and rover.
ISAR sources indicated that we are planning a novel experiment of flying a modern technology rotocopter (helicopter) or even a drone on the surface of the night planet of the solar system in our future Mangalyaan-2 project. Are. India's first Mars Orbiter Mission (Mangalyaan-1) was launched on 5 November 2013. Then Mangalyaan-2 spacecraft successfully entered the orbit of Mars in the first attempt on 24 September 2014. Mangalyaan-1 spacecraft lost contact with ISRO in April 2022 after eight years of excellent performance.
The US space research agency National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has successfully conducted the experiment of flying Ingenuity helicopter on Mars. NASA also deployed the Ingenuity helicopter with its Perseverance rover on July 30, 2020. Then on February 19, 2021, the Perseverance rover landed near the Jezero meteorite on the solar system's red planet. Ingenuity Helicopters, associated with Perseverance, has conducted the most ambitious and successful experiment to fly a helicopter in the atmosphere of a planet other than Earth.
NASA's Ingenuity helicopter flew through the Martian atmosphere 72 times over three years at an altitude of 24 meters (72 feet) to conduct in-depth research and study of the planet's atmosphere.
Now ISRO is also planning an ambitious experiment of flying a rotocopter or drone, similar to NASA's Ingenuity helicopter, in the atmosphere of Mars. However, ISRO sources also indicated that plans to fly rotocopters or drones in the atmosphere of the solar system's night planet are still in the early stages. We are making technical planning with the design of rotocopter or drone to install electronic devices like temperature sensor, humidity sensor, pressure sensor, wind speed sensor, electric field sensor, trace species and dust sensor etc.
