Digital Agriculture Mission 2021-2025 was launched by the Ministry of Agriculture in 2021 and 5 MoUs were signed with companies like Cisco, Jio Platforms, ITC Ltd and National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange. A task force was formed to develop an agri stack that can leverage AI, blockchain, remote sensing, robots and drones to collect better information on the country's agriculture sector.
The task force has taken suggestions from experts, farmer organisations and the public. After preparing the model, the government started a pilot project in selected districts. After the successful pilot run in UP and Maharashtra, now there is a plan to cover farmers of 12 states and all districts of the country by the end of next year.
Sources say that the creation of this agriculture stack will help the government and industry to better estimate land area and crop production. This move will also ensure better implementation and delivery of major central government schemes like PM Kisan Samman Nidhi and Crop Insurance Scheme. The total cost of the Digital Agriculture Mission will be around Rs 2800 crore.
You will get the loan in less than 10-15 days
A source said that through Agri Stack, the time taken for farmers to get loans will be reduced from 10-15 days to a few hours. Because through this platform, private and public banks and agribusinesses will be able to verify the identity of the farmer, the size of his land holdings, ownership documents and the area under cultivation.
Soon after taking oath, the Prime Minister approved the release of the 17th installment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, which costs a total of Rs 20,000 crore. The proposal for Digital Agriculture Mission is also likely to be considered by the Union Cabinet and a formal announcement is expected in the next few weeks.
