It is mandatory to buy a ticket to travel by train, not doing so is considered a violation of railway rules. How much fine in which situation?

  • If a person is caught travelling without a ticket, then as per the railway rules, he may have to face a jail term of up to six months or a maximum fine of Rs 1,000. The minimum amount of the fine is Rs 250, which includes the cost of the ticket for the distance travelled.
  • Suppose you have taken a ticket for sleeper coach and you travel in AC coach. In this situation, if caught, the person will have to pay the difference between the fare of AC coach and the fare of sleeper coach. Apart from this, an additional fine can also be imposed by the TTE.
  • If you have booked a ticket online, then you must have an identity card with you during the journey. If you do not give your identity card to the TTE, then the TTE can consider you as a person without ticket and can charge you a fine.
  • If anyone travels in a train after consuming alcohol or drinks alcohol during the journey, he will be deboarded from the train, besides this, a fine of Rs 500 will be imposed on that person and he will also be jailed for six months.
  • If you are young and caught travelling without a ticket, you may have to pay a minimum fine of Rs 250 or additional charges or both.
  • According to Section 141 of the Indian Railway Act, anyone stopping a train by pulling the emergency chain without any reasonable cause shall be punishable with imprisonment of up to one year or fine of up to Rs 1,000 or both.
  • As per railway rules, no one is allowed to smoke in trains and anyone caught doing so can be fined Rs 200.
  • If a person crosses the railway track or enters the platform without ticket or permission, he can be fined Rs 1,000 or jailed.
