According to a survey conducted by IIM Ahmedabad in collaboration with other research institutes, families across all income groups invested an average of 18 per cent of their total investments in gold, indicating the popularity of the glitter of gold.
A total of 43,000 households participated in the survey and these households were selected from all income groups. The highest income 20 per cent of households reported that they invest 21 per cent of their total investment in gold, while the lowest income 20 per cent of households contributed 16 per cent.
