The country's new criminal laws, the Indian Judicial Code, the Indian Civil Defence Code and the Indian Evidence Act, came into force on Monday, July 1, replacing the British-era Indian Penal Code.
On the first day of implementation of the new law, the first case was reported in four states Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Maharashtra. Cases were registered after criminal incidents in Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh and Sawantwadi in Maharashtra. The first case under the new criminal law was reported in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. There was a complaint in the police that someone's motorcycle had been stolen. The complaint was registered at 12.10 pm. A complaint was received against a vendor in Delhi. However, in this case the complaint was registered as per the earlier provision. In this case, Ferrio parked his lorry in the middle of the road in Kamala Market and caused obstruction. Ferrio used to sell water and tobacco products. The police took action against him and asked him to move to another place. A case was also registered in Sawantwadi in Sidhu district of Maharashtra under the new law. The fourth case came to light in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
Opposition raised the issue of bulldozer justice
After the new law came into force, the opposition criticized the impending justice by bulldozing the houses of the accused in some other states including UP. Congress and other opposition parties alleged that the new laws were implemented by the government in a hurry without adequate discussion. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge wrote on social media that the three laws that came into force on Monday were forcibly implemented after 146 MPs were taken out of the House.
