Mumbai: Electric vehicle sales in the country have declined by 14% in June of the current year as compared to May. It is believed that the sales of electric vehicles have declined due to changes in government policies and people's increasing preference towards hybrid vehicles.
According to the vehicle data of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, there has been a twenty percent increase in the sale of electric vehicles in June of the current year as compared to June last year.
According to vehicle data, electric vehicle sales in June fell by more than 14 percent to 106,081 vehicles from 123,704 vehicles in May. The June figure is being seen as the lowest of the current year.
A total of 839,545 electric vehicles were sold in the first six months of the current year, accounting for 6.69 per cent of total vehicle sales. Auto sector circles say that the sharp cut in subsidy on electric two-wheelers by the government has led to a decline in its sales.
The subsidy on two-wheelers was reduced from Rs 60,000 to Rs 22,500 and the price of e-two-wheelers increased.
Vahan data also shows that e-two-wheelers accounted for 57 per cent of total sales of 839,545 electric vehicles in the first six months of the current year.
