After becoming the T20 World Champion, Team India will go through a phase of change. The BCCI has said that the new coach of the Indian team and the new captain in T20 will be announced soon. The BCCI secretary said that the Cricket Advisory Committee has shortlisted two names for the role of the head coach of the team. With the end of the T20 World Cup 2024, the tenure of Team India's head coach Rahul Dravid has also ended.
The team will get a new head coach
After the mega-event, the Indian cricket team is now set to welcome a new head coach for the upcoming limited-overs series starting in Sri Lanka later this month. Former opener Gautam Gambhir and former Indian women's coach Varkeri Raman are strong contenders for the role. Under the leadership of the new coach, the Indian team will be seen playing in the Champions Trophy next year. T20 champions India will be eyeing another ICC title.
However, the BCCI has made it clear that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who recently bid farewell to the T20 format, will play in the Champions Trophy. As soon as Team India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 title, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from T20 Internationals and since then fans have many questions in their minds.
Senior players will get a chance
With the retirement of Rohit, Kohli and Jadeja, India is on the threshold of a new era. The BCCI secretary is confident of the change, talking about the strength and depth of the Indian bench. He said, “The team has already changed with the retirement of three great players. We have the biggest bench strength. Only three players from this team are going to Zimbabwe. If needed, we can field three teams.”
He further said, I want India to win all the titles. The way this team is progressing, our goal is to win the World Test Championship Final and the Champions Trophy. At the same time, senior players will also be present in both these tournaments.
Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan
This time the Champions Trophy is being organized in Pakistan. During this time a total of 8 teams will play 15 matches. The schedule of the Champions Trophy has not been announced yet. Some media reports have said that the tournament will start from February 19, while the final of the tournament will be played on March 9. The Pakistan Cricket Board is trying its best to host all the matches of the Champions Trophy in Pakistan, but the question is whether the BCCI will send the Indian team for the tournament.
