Dearness Allowance for Government Employees: Lakhs of government employees of the country are going to get a big gift. The government can now release dearness allowance (DA) which was not released during the lockdown. Due to the Corona epidemic, the government did not deposit dearness allowance in the accounts of government employees for 18 months from 2020 to 2021. Employee unions have demanded this many times, but this time it is expected that the government can give a gift to its employees. Because this time the employee organizations have presented recommendations to PM Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
This time, Shiv Gopal Mishra, Secretary of the National Council (Employees' Party), a joint consultative body of central employees, has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and appealed that government employees have discharged their responsibilities well during the corona pandemic. Now the government should pay their outstanding dearness allowance.
How much is the dearness allowance due?
The government increases dearness allowance twice every year in January and July. In 2020, the amount of dearness allowance was stopped thrice amid the economic challenges due to the corona epidemic. In the letter sent by Prime Minister Modi, the employee organizations have raised 14 demands. This also includes 18 months of arrears of dearness allowance.
Finance Minister sent the proposal
In January, the general secretary of the workers' union Mukesh Singh wrote a letter to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman demanding the release of 18 months of frozen dearness allowance from January, 2020 to June, 2021. Earlier last year, Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary had said in the Lok Sabha that the decision to stop the DA of employees during the pandemic was taken to reduce the financial burden on the country. The country's fiscal deficit is still in double digits. In such a situation, it is not possible to release the withheld dearness allowance of employees.
