Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Saturday stressed on the need for enforcing constitutional morality in the country's judiciary.
He said that the courts of the country will have to show commitment to ensure diversity, inclusiveness and tolerance in the country. At the Eastern Regional Conference of the National Judicial Academy, the CJI emphasized the importance of technological advancement in providing justice. Regarding the morality of the Constitution, he said that the morality of the Constitution is becoming an impeding factor for the states in achieving the values proposed by the Constitution. Emphasizing the federal structure of the country, he said that our country is rich in diversity. In such a situation, judges will have to play an important role to protect the diversity of India.
The CJI said that when people call courts the temple of justice, I am left speechless because this would mean that judges are God.
Over 37,000 decisions translated by AI
The CJI said that after Independence, about 37,000 judgments were translated by the Supreme Court from English to other languages in the language recognised in the Constitution. AI-based software played a vital role in translating the judgments into various languages. He appreciated the use of technological tools to give free digital copies of judgments to the people, decentralised functioning of courts to provide relief to litigants, use of modern technology to spread awareness among people about the functioning of courts, etc.
