Javelin thrower DP Manu, who is considered a contender for Olympic qualification, has been suspended indefinitely by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) for consuming banned steroids.
Manu's dope test was taken during the Indian Grand Prix Athletic Meet in April this year. Earlier, he was ordered to stay away from competitions by the Athletics Federation of India on the instructions of NADA. The 24-year-old javelin thrower, who won a silver medal at the Asian Championships 2023, seemed certain to qualify for the Paris Olympics based on his world ranking, but now he will be out of the race for the Paris Games. Manunu's name was included in the preliminary list for the National Inter State Championships, which began on Thursday, but his name was removed. AFI President Adil said that we do not know what the facts are but there was a call from NADA and orders were given to stop Manu from competing. Manu himself is also in touch with NADA. Manu finished second behind Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra with a throw of 82.06 meters in the Federation Cup held in Bhubaneswar.
