Bail of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren: The Jharkhand High Court has given its verdict on the bail plea of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, accused in the land scam case. The High Court granted bail to Hemant Soren on Friday. Hemant Soren has got a big relief after getting bail from the High Court. Earlier, during the hearing on Thursday (June 13), the arguments were completed by the ED and the defense. After hearing both the sides, the court kept its decision pending.
An ED team reached Soren's residence in Shanti Niketan in Delhi on January 30 to investigate the alleged land scam case. The team stayed here for about 13 hours. ED sources said that during this time CM Hemant Soren was not present at the bungalow. Cash worth Rs 36 lakh was seized during the raid. A BMW car with a Haryana number plate registered in a 'benami' name was also found.
Apart from this, it is also being said that some important documents have also been found. ED also released a picture of the cash found from Hemant Soren's house. In this picture, several bundles of 500 rupee notes are visible, which have been seized by ED.
Hemant Soren's bail plea was heard in the court of High Court judge Justice Rangon Mukhopadhyay. Hemant Soren was arrested on the night of January 31 in the land scam case. At the same time, 22 other people including Afsar Ali, JMM leader Antu Tirkey, Priyaranjan Sahay, Vipin Singh and Irshad have also been arrested in this case.
What is the whole matter?
The Tax Commissioner has submitted a report to the government regarding the land occupied by the Army in Ranchi, which states that the Army's land has been illegally occupied on the basis of fake names and addresses. Ranchi Municipal Corporation has lodged a complaint in this regard. In November 2022, raids were conducted at the premises of businessmen Vishnu Agarwal and Amit Agarwal, in which the ED seized many important documents.
How did Chief Minister Soren's name come up in the scam?
Actually, on 8 July-2022, a raid was conducted at the house of the Chief Minister's MLA representative Pankaj Mishra, in which the ED found a checkbook related to CM Hemant Soren's bank account. Then his name got linked to this case… Now the ED has called him for questioning on August 14.
