Jabalpur, June 27 (HS). Due to heavy rains for about half an hour in the city on Thursday, the roads and houses of people in Ganganagar and Chandan Nagar Colony in Garha Ward under West Assembly were flooded as soon as the Public Works Minister of the state immediately reached the spot and took stock of the situation. Minister Singh also talked to the residents of the area, and also directed the Municipal Corporation officials to make arrangements for water drainage. He also directed the officials to make an action plan to permanently free the citizens of the area from the problem of waterlogging.
Public Works Minister Rakesh Singh was going to attend a meeting organised at Panchmatha Mandir in Indira Gandhi Ward in the evening after meeting local citizens and workers at the community hall located at Ramlila Maidan in Garha Ward during ward meetings on Thursday. Meanwhile, heavy rain started and Minister Singh came to know that Ganganagar and Chandan Nagar Colony were flooded. On receiving the information, Minister Rakesh Singh immediately reached there and saw that the roads were filled with water up to his knees. He himself set out on foot in knee-deep water to take stock of the waterlogging situation. He also immediately called the Municipal Corporation officials and directed them to find a solution for water drainage.
Minister Rakesh Singh, who reached the spot before the administration arrived, talked to the local citizens and was told that this is a problem that has been going on for many years every time it rains. Minister Singh instructed the municipal corporation officials who reached the spot to provide immediate relief to the people from this problem and also asked them to prepare an action plan for a permanent solution.
Rakesh Singh said on this occasion that even during the code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections, he had held a meeting with the administrative officials in view of flooding and the objective of that meeting was that there is not much time left for the code of conduct to end and the rains to begin, therefore the problem of flooding will have to be solved beforehand. To a great extent, the district administration and the municipal corporation have also worked for this, but the geographical position of the area where the water is filled is like a bowl, this area is lower than the surrounding area and because of this, water comes from all sides and stops here.
He said that this is a problem that has been going on for many years, but every effort will be made to find a permanent solution to this. Mr. Singh expressed hope that in the future, citizens will not have to face such problems in this area.
