Controversy over Sengol in Parliament: The first session of Parliament is going on after the Lok Sabha elections 2024. After the swearing-in of the newly elected Lok Sabha members and the election of the Speaker, President Draupadi Murmu is addressing the joint session of both the Houses today. Amidst all this, politics has heated up over the Sengol installed in the Parliament. Opposition forces have started demanding the removal of the Sengol installed near the Speaker's seat in the Parliament House. The Samajwadi Party (SP) has described the Sengol as a symbol of monarchy and has demanded to remove it and implement the Constitution in its place.
'The Constitution is important…'
Samajwadi Party's Rajya Sabha MP RK Chaudhary has said that the Constitution is important, it is a symbol of democracy. In the last term, the BJP government led by Prime Minister Modi had established 'Sengol' in the Parliament. 'Sengol' means 'royal stick', it also means 'king's stick'. The country has become independent by ending the monarchy. Will the country run by the king's stick or the Constitution? I demand that Sengol be removed from the Parliament to save the Constitution.
What did Akhilesh Yadav say?
Samajwadi Party chief and MP Akhilesh has also given a statement on RK Chaudhary's statement. He said, “I think our MPs are probably saying this because when it (Sengol) was installed, the Prime Minister bowed to it. But this time he forgot to bow to the Sengol while taking oath. That's why my party has made this statement to remind him. Maybe Modi wanted something else.
SP gets support from Congress and RJD
Congress party has supported Samajwadi Party on the Sengol issue. The party said that SP's demand on Sengol is not wrong. Congress MP Renuka Chaudhary said that BJP has kept Sengol on its own will. SP's demand is not wrong. The House takes everyone along but BJP acts arbitrarily. On the Sengol issue, RJD leader Misa Bharti said that Sengol should be removed, this is democracy, not monarchy. Sengol should be kept in a museum. It is a symbol of monarchy, so Sengol should be removed.
'Modiji, the constitution…'
On RK Chaudhary's statement, BJP's Lok Sabha MP Khagen Murmu said that these people have no other work to do. They are misleading the Constitution. These people do not believe in the Constitution. Modi ji respects the Constitution a lot. On the statement of the SP leader, BJP MP Mahesh Jethmalani said that Sengol is a symbol of the nation. Sengol has been established, now no one can remove it.
