Sudha Murthy and APJ Abdul Kalam:Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murthy had an interesting conversation with former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam over the phone. The Rajya Sabha MP has shared a video clip on her Twitter handle in which she is explaining why the former President finally called her.
When the President's call came…
While A.P.J. Abdul Kalam called her, she thought that the call was not for her but for her husband and Infosys founder Narayan Murthy. The video clip shows Sudha Murthy and A.P.J. Abdul Kalam's picture in it and his recorded voice is heard in the background. In the video recording, Sudha Murthy says, “One day I got a call that Abdul Kalam wants to talk to you. I told him that this is a wrong number because I have no relation with Abdul Kalam. So I thought I had called. It must have come by mistake.”
When the operator was told that you made a mistake…
Sudha Murthy further said that “I told the operator that this call may be for Narayan Murthy. You have contacted Mrs. Murthy instead of Mr. Murthy. Then the operator told Sudha Murthy that no, Abdul Kalam has specifically asked to talk to Mrs. Murthy.”
What did Dr. Kalam say in the conversation?
Then Sudha Murthy was surprised and started wondering what she did that Abdul Kalam called her. When the two talked on the phone, Abdul Kalam told her that he had read a column on the IT divide. Dr. Kalam also said that this column was brilliant and he used to read it whenever her article was published.
What was in his article?
Actually, Sudha Murthy wrote in her column that he had gone to buy a kilo of fruit for Rs 100. Later, one of his students, who worked as a software engineer in Infosys, bought the same fruit from the same shopkeeper for Rs 200. Seeing this, Sudha Murthy asked the shopkeeper why there is so much difference. The shopkeeper explained that you are a school teacher, you will not understand. Whereas he is an IT person, working in Infosys. That is why its price is Rs 200. Sudha Murthy said that Abdul Kalam laughed a lot after reading this line. MP Sudha Murthy is also a writer and social worker.
