Today is the third day of the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha. In the proceedings of the last two days, the elected MPs took oath as members of the House. Along with this, the candidates for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker were announced. Om Birla from NDA and Congress MP K Suresh from India Alliance were fielded. The Speaker will be elected today. If Om Birla is elected Speaker, then this will also be a historic moment because this will be the first time that a person from BJP has been elected Speaker for the second consecutive time.
We have the numbers but we want consensus from the opposition- Rijiju
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju then said that we have the numbers but it is not a question of numbers. The Speaker has to run the House impartially. In such a situation, it is better for all of us that we elect the Speaker by consensus. There is still time and we will make another appeal to the Congress but even if we are forced to hold elections, we are ready.
