New Delhi, June 25 (HS). The Railway Ministry said on Tuesday that the news circulating on social media about the ban on ticket booking due to different surnames is false and misleading.
In an official statement, the Railway Ministry said, “It is clarified that tickets are being booked from the IRCTC site as per the guidelines of the Railway Board and the required information is available in the public domain.”
First, one can book tickets for their friends, family and relatives on individual user ID.
Secondly, in case of Aadhaar-authenticated users, 12 tickets can be booked per month, which can go up to 24 tickets per month if even one of the passengers on the ticket is Aadhaar authenticated.
Thirdly, tickets booked on individual user IDs are not for commercial sale and doing so is an offence under Section 143 of the Railways Act, 1989.
