New Delhi, June 24 (HS). Due to the rise in select stocks, the domestic stock market managed to close strongly despite a weak start today. Today's trading started with a decline. But in the first hour of trading, buyers took charge of the market, due to which the stock market managed to reach the green mark. After the whole day's trading, the Sensex closed with a gain of 0.17 percent and the Nifty with a gain of 0.16 percent.
During today's trading, the most buying was done in the shares of automobile, industrial and power sector. Similarly, the capital goods and FMCG index also managed to close with gains. On the other hand, there was selling pressure in the shares of energy, consumer durables, metal, PSU bank, oil and gas and media sector. There was continuous buying in the broader market today, due to which the BSE midcap index closed with a gain of 0.37 percent. Similarly, the smallcap index ended today's trading with a gain of 0.27 percent.
Due to the rise in the market today, the wealth of stock market investors increased by more than Rs 1.25 lakh crore. The market capitalization of companies listed on BSE increased to Rs 435.75 lakh crore (provisional) after today's trading. Whereas on the last trading day of last week i.e. Friday, their market capitalization was Rs 434.38 lakh crore. In this way, investors made a profit of about Rs 1.27 lakh crore from today's trading.
There was active trading in 4,155 shares on the BSE during today's trading. Of these, 2,119 shares closed with a gain while 1,872 shares showed a decline while 164 shares closed without any fluctuation. There was active trading in 2,337 shares on the NSE today. Of these, 1,161 shares closed in the green zone after making profits while 1,176 shares closed in the red zone after incurring losses. Similarly, out of the 30 shares included in the Sensex, 19 shares closed with a gain and 11 shares closed with a decline. While, out of the shares included in the Nifty, 27 shares closed in the green zone and 23 shares closed in the red zone.
The BSE Sensex today opened at 76,885.65 points, down 324.25 points. As soon as the trading started, due to the selling pressure, the index fell to 76,745.94 points with a weakness of 463.96 points. However, before 10 am, buyers started buying, due to which the movement of this index gained momentum. Despite minor shocks of selling, due to the support of continuous buying, this index jumped more than 675 points from the lower level and reached 77,423.02 points with a gain of 213.12 points. After the whole day's trading, the Sensex closed at 77,341.08 points with a gain of 131.18 points.
Like the Sensex, NSE's Nifty started trading today with a weakness of 118.80 points at 23,382.30 points. After the market opened, profit booking started and the index fell by 151.10 points to 23,350 points. But after the first hour of trading ended, buyers put in their strength, due to which the index started moving better. With the support of continuous buying, the index made its place in the green zone in a short time and climbing up, it was successful in reaching the level of 23,558.10 points with a gain of 57 points. After the day's buying and selling, the Nifty closed at 23,537.85 points with a gain of 36.75 points.
After the day's trading, among the big stocks of the stock market, Mahindra & Mahindra 2.67 percent, Shriram Finance 2.15 percent, Power Grid Corporation 2.15 percent, Grasim Industries 1.98 percent and Sun Pharmaceuticals 1.86 percent were included in the list of top 5 gainers of today. On the other hand, Cipla 2.41 percent, Indusind Bank 2.41 percent, Adani Ports 1.70 percent, Coal India 1.35 percent and Tata Steel 1.10 percent were included in the list of top 5 losers of today.
