New Delhi: To control cyber crimes, the government is soon going to prepare 'Cyber Commando' squads. Although this work has been going on for a year, now it has been included in the 100-day agenda of the Home Ministry and it can also be announced in the budget coming in July.
Along with this, the Home Ministry is also preparing an application named Cyber Dost, through which it will be very easy to complain about cyber crime.
This special cell will have personnel from state and union police forces as well as central police organisations. All of them will be given intensive training in cyber security and digital crime investigation. But they will be different from the personnel found in cyber police stations and will work with the local administration to deal with cyber threats.
In January last year, the Prime Minister had suggested the formation of this cell. Later in October 2023, the Home Ministry asked the states and union territories to select 10 'cyber commandos' and send their information to the ministry. The final details of this special unit are being worked out and after the work is completed, it will be announced in the budget.
The ministry believes that a separate app would be more effective for this. But it is not yet known whether this app will be for Android, Apple or both.
The move is significant as the number of cyber attacks in India is on the rise. According to a new report by application security company Indusface, cyber attacks on Indian websites saw a massive 261 per cent rise between January and March compared to last year, while globally it was only 76 per cent.
