Meeting with PM Modi today, many important agreements will be made

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who arrived in Delhi on a two-day visit to India, will meet PM Narendra Modi today. This is Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's second visit to India in 15 days. Earlier, Sheikh Hasina had attended PM Modi's swearing-in ceremony on June 9. Today, PM Modi and Hasina are likely to hold talks on several important issues including railways, energy and connectivity.

The master plan for Teesta water distribution may also be discussed. Sheikh Hasina is also scheduled to meet President Draupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar today. Her current visit is being seen as an attempt to strike a balance between Dhaka-Delhi and Beijing. Yesterday in Delhi, she met External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

The relationship between India and Bangladesh is special

PM Modi has always given special importance to relations with Bangladesh. PM Modi's relations with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have been very cordial. This time too Sheikh Hasina attended Modi's swearing-in ceremony. Last year, during the G-20 summit, PM Modi had invited Bangladesh as a guest; Bangladesh was the only South Asian country among the nine countries. Bangladesh is an important partner under India's Neighbourhood First policy.

How important is Sheikh Hasina's visit?

Sheikh Hasina is the first head of state to visit Delhi after the swearing-in of Modi Government 3.0. This is her second visit to India in 15 days. From this, one can guess how important the friendship of the two countries is. Bangladesh is of great strategic importance to India. Due to which China's strategy in Bangladesh may fail. After this visit, Sheikh Hasina will go to China. This also has many meanings because Bangladesh is India's major trading partner in South Asia.

Many important agreements can be discussed during the meeting between PM Modi and Sheikh Hasina. These include the Teesta water agreement, emphasis on increasing cross-border connectivity, discussion on the security situation in Myanmar, discussion on economic and trade issues, efforts to build consensus on trade and increasing connectivity.
