Mumbai: A 25-year-old mother from Latur committed suicide by jumping into a well along with her five-year-old daughter as it was not possible to educate both her children in an English school due to lack of money.
The incident took place in Malegaon of Nilanga tehsil of Latur. In this case, a case of accidental death was registered at Aurad Shahjani police station on Wednesday.
Bhagyashree Venkat Halse (age 26) and Sameeksha Venkat Halse (age 5) died in the incident. Venkat has one and a half acres of land and his livelihood was mainly based on goat rearing. Bhagyashree also used to work for more income.
According to preliminary investigation, Bhagyashree wanted to send her son Sarth K and daughter Mavian to study in a private school affiliated to CBSE. However, this was not possible due to her husband's poor financial capacity. Due to this, she was suffering from depression for some time, her family members told the police. Bhagyashree had lost her mother last year and was also depressed.
In which on Tuesday evening around 5:30 pm Bhagyashree went to another farm well near her farm with her daughter Samiksha and before committing suicide, she made a video call to her husband Venkat Halse and asked him to see her daughter's face for the last time. After this, both mother and daughter jumped into the well and both died. Interestingly, Bhagyashree tried to take her son Sarthak along with her while playing outside. But Sarthak went to play with his friends instead of going with his mother. That's why he survived.
After the incident, the police recovered both the bodies with the help of local residents. The police have registered a case of accident in this matter and are currently investigating further.
