However, on June 21, the High Court ruled in favor of Maharaj and the release of the film was given the green signal. In view of the growing controversy over the film, the Gujarat High Court banned the film even before its release on OTT and said that the court will watch the film and then give its decision on the release of the film.

The film Maharaj has been streamed on the OTT platform Netflix. Junaid Khan's first film is two hours and 11 minutes long. Apart from Hindi, the film has also been released in Tamil and Telugu languages. The story of this film is based on the defamation case against journalist Karsandas Mulji.

The film was scheduled to release on Netflix on June 14, but before the release of the film, a petition was filed in the Gujarat High Court demanding a ban on the release of the film, as the image of sadhus has been shown in the film.
