While hearing the petition filed in the NEET UG 2024 case, the Supreme Court refused to stay the counseling process. Counseling for admission to MBBS, BDS and other medical courses will begin from July 6. On Friday, a vacation bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice SVN Bhati sought a response from the NTA on some new petitions.
According to a website, during the hearing, the applicant's lawyer requested that the counseling scheduled for July 6 be postponed, as the Supreme Court is going to hear the petitions challenging the NEET-UG exam on July 8. On which Justice Bhati said that counseling is not open or closed, it is a process. The lawyer appearing on behalf of the petitioner demanded a stay on the re-examination, saying that the NTA had hidden important information from the court. Out of 1,563 candidates, 753 failed.
Earlier too, the court had refused to stop the counselling process. Yesterday, the court had orally said that admission will depend on the final result of the applications and if the exam is cancelled, the counselling will also become invalid.
Who filed the application?
The petition was filed by NEET UG candidates Hiten Singh Kashyap and Palak Mittal, seeking a CBI probe into alleged cases of paper leak and malpractice in the conduct of the exam. The petitioners have, among other things, alleged rigging at the exam centre.
Sufficient evidence of paper leak
The petition said that Gujarat police registered a case after a teacher offered to solve the NEET exam for Rs 10 lakh. Similarly, an FIR has been lodged in Patna, Bihar with a statement given before the magistrate's court in Patna with sufficient evidence confirming the NEET paper leak.
