Jammu, June 18 (HS). The Indian Army under the aegis of Ace of Spades Division has initiated a Volleyball Championship for villages near the Line of Control (LoC) to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas Silver Jubilee Celebrations-2024. The tournament was organized in the memory of brave Sepoy Late Hardeep Singh, a resident of Lam who made the supreme sacrifice during Operation Vijay (Kargil) in 1999 and witnessed enthusiastic participation and community spirit.
The championship began on June 10 and concluded with the final match on June 18. Sixteen teams from Kalal, Gauchar, Bisali, Lam, Mangla, Noniyal and Bhowani villages near the LoC participated in the event, which was organised by the Tithwal Warriors. The tournament not only showcased the athletic prowess of the participants but also paid emotional tribute to the heroes of the Kargil war, especially those from the local areas of Naryan and Nowshera.
The event witnessed enthusiastic attendance of locals including women and children who cheered the teams and celebrated the spirit of competition and camaraderie. The championship also included a special ceremony to felicitate Veer Naris (war widows) of Kargil war heroes from the local area in recognition of their sacrifice and perseverance.
