Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has strongly condemned the attack on an NRI couple in Khajjiar, Dalhousie, Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. Taking strict cognizance, he has directed the police to investigate the matter thoroughly and take strict action against the culprits.
A state government spokesperson said that recently a Spanish-Punjabi couple was attacked by some people in Khajjiar. In this case, the state police will ensure appropriate action based on the information received from Amritsar police station. He said that the people of the state are known for their simplicity and gentle nature. Every year tourists from every corner of the country and abroad come to visit Himachal. The state government provides a safe environment to the tourists.
The incident took place on 11 June 2024 at the parking lot of tourist town Khajjiar, where a dispute between two parties turned into a fight. Action was taken by the local police administration in this matter. The local police provided all possible assistance to the tourist couple. The police team reached the spot and took the passengers to Chamba Hospital for first aid. The couple refused to undergo medical examination and register a case. After this, an agreement was reached between the two parties in the presence of the police.
Former Punjab Chief Minister and newly elected MP from Jalandhar Charanjit Singh Channi spoke to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhu over the phone regarding the attack on an NRI couple from Punjab in Himachal Pradesh and demanded immediate action against the culprits. Channi appealed that there should be an impartial investigation of this incident, as the people of Punjab are very angry. He said that such incidents should not happen. Efforts are being made to create a rift in the brotherhood of Punjab and Himachal, but this will not be allowed to happen. He himself is appealing to the people at his own level to maintain brotherhood.
