Lockie Ferguson became the first bowler to bowl four maiden overs in a spell in the T20 World Cup

New Delhi, June 18 (HS). New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson has become the second bowler to bowl four maiden overs in a spell in T20 International cricket and the first bowler in the Men's T20 World Cup.

On Monday, he took 3 wickets for no runs in his 4 overs against Papua New Guinea in New Zealand's last group-stage match at the T20 World Cup 2024. This is also New Zealand's last match in the tournament, as they were eliminated after losses to Afghanistan and West Indies.

The only other bowler to achieve this feat is Canada's Saad Bin Zafar, who took 2 wickets without conceding any runs in his 4 overs against Panama in the T20 World Cup Americas Region Qualifier match in Coolidge in 2021.

Talking about the match, Papua New Guinea (PNG) team, who came to bat first after losing the toss, were all out for only 78 runs in 19.4 overs. Charles Amini scored the highest 17 runs for PNG.

For New Zealand, Lockie Ferguson took 3 wickets without giving any runs in his 4 over spell. Apart from him, Trent Boult, Tim Southee and Ish Sodhi took 2-2 wickets and Mitchell Santner took 1 wicket.

In reply, New Zealand won the match by scoring 79 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 12.2 overs.

For New Zealand, Devon Conway scored 35, captain Kane Williamson scored 18 not out and Daryl Mitchell scored 19 not out.

For PNG, Kabua Morea took 2 wickets and Semo Kamea took 1 wicket.
