Opposition raised questions on Agnipath scheme

The opposition has been criticising the Agneepath scheme since the beginning and aggressively questioning its credibility during the Lok Sabha election campaign. The Congress had promised to discontinue the scheme if it came to power at the Centre. The Agneepath scheme is a 'Tour of Duty style' scheme, which was implemented in September 2022 for a four-year recruitment of soldiers only below the commissioned officer rank in all three services of the armed forces.
