Jammu, June 16 (HS). While the scorching heat has made life difficult for the people, the anger of the people of Jammu city is increasing day by day towards the electricity department due to the frequent power cuts. Former Chairman of Jammu Municipal Corporation and General Secretary of the State Congress Committee Satish Sharma said on Sunday that the government had claimed that after the installation of smart meters, people will get electricity for 24 hours, but the exact opposite happened, all the claims of the government went in vain and today the people of Jammu city and its surrounding areas are facing power cuts of 8 to 10 hours even at those places where smart meters have been installed.
Satish Sharma said that the situation has become such that now the employees of the electricity department do not even consider it appropriate to pick up the phone of the common people and the public is confused as to whom they should take their complaints to. He said that in this scorching heat, people here need electricity the most and at this time the department is proving unsuccessful in providing electricity to the people, he said that due to lack of electricity, it is directly affecting the water and at many places people are facing problems in getting drinking water.
Sharma said that if people are facing so much electricity problem in Jammu city after the installation of smart meters, then you can imagine what kind of preparation the department will make for the summer season. He said that until there is no elected government in Jammu Kashmir, the departmental officers will work according to their own will and the common people will suffer the loss. Satish said that many people of Bavliana, Ekta Vihar, Bandhrukh, Kunjwani, Jeevan Nagar, Gangyal, Dadap, Apna Vihar, Shanti Nagar, Dashmesh Nagar have met me and complained that before the onset of summer, their electricity used to come from Gladni Power House located in Narwal, which has now been cut off from Gladni and connected to Laliyana Power House in Bishnah. Due to the long line and high load, the power cuts have increased a lot now. Satish said that the first arrangement should be made in these areas and people should be given immediate relief. He warned the department and said that if the electricity system is not improved in Jammu city and surrounding areas, then in the coming days Congress will protest against the department on a large scale. District Vice President of Congress Jammu Baldev Singh Wazir and General Secretary Sumanpreet Singh were present with him.
