On Friday, February 23, former Pakistan Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan wrote a letter to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Through this letter, he has advised Pakistan to get the election results audited before giving any new loan. However, the IMF ignored their demands and expressed its willingness to work with the new government.
During a press conference, Julie Kozek, the IMF's communications director, said that on January 11, the lender decided to disburse $1.9 billion under the Standby Arrangement (SBA). “We support the authorities' efforts to stabilize the economy,” Kozek said.
Meanwhile, he also praised the previous government of Pakistan. He said that the present government and officials have maintained economic stability during their tenure. The IMF spokesperson further said that they look forward to working with the new government on its policies to ensure macroeconomic stability and prosperity for all citizens of Pakistan.
What was the response to Imran's demand?
Julie Kozek raised questions on Imran Khan's statement during the press conference. In response to which she said, 'I do not want to comment on his current political developments.'
Imran Khan demanded
This statement of the IMF comes after a letter written by former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to the global lender IMF. PTI founder Imran Khan through a letter appealed for an audit of the general election results before discussions with Islamabad for the new loan programme. Imran demanded that the IMF should audit the election results before giving any loan to Pakistan.
