Couple dies due to suffocation in AC fire caused by short circuit

Jaipur, June 15 (HS). An AC caught fire due to a short circuit in Jawahar Nagar police station area on Saturday late evening. The fire took a horrific form in no time. The couple went inside due to the fire. The elderly couple died due to suffocation. The fire burnt down furniture and other items kept in the house.

SHO Daulatram Gurjar said that a short circuit in the AC in a house located at B-37 Ramgali number seven Raja Park on Saturday evening around 4 pm caused a fire. The fire engulfed the entire house in no time. Seeing smoke rising from the house, the local people informed the police about the incident. Due to the fire, an elderly couple living in the house got trapped. They started suffocating due to the smoke. On receiving information about the fire, the fire brigade reached the spot. The firemen risked their lives and entered inside to extinguish the fire and brought out the couple trapped in it and took them to the hospital. Where they died during treatment. The furniture and other items kept in the house were burnt in the fire.

Police officer Daulatram Gurjar said that retired bank manager Praveen Verma and his wife Renu died in the fire. Renu worked as an interior designer. Both are around 60-65 years old. The fire started due to a short circuit in the AC. This caused the fire to catch the furniture and other things kept there. The couple could not come out due to the smoke from the fire and they suffocated. The fire brigade personnel extinguished the fire and took both of them out of the house. Both were taken to the hospital in an ambulance, where they died. Both were found lying unconscious in the house. No one was living in the house except the couple. The couple's son and daughter-in-law live abroad. The family members have been informed about the accident. The post-mortem of the bodies will be done only after their arrival.
