Elderly couple, son seriously injured as slab collapses in Kalvani building

Mumbai: An elderly couple and their son were injured when the slab of the hall of their third floor flat in Kalvani building broke and fell on the second floor. More than 100 residents of this building were evacuated. The building has been sealed.

The municipality had earlier ordered to vacate and demolish the 35-year-old building as it was dangerous. There is a four-storey building named Om Krishna Company. Op. Yes. Society in Bhusar Ali, Kalwa.

Thane Municipal Corporation Disaster Management Cell chief Yasin Tadvi said that last night at 11.55 pm, the slab of the hall of flat no. 302 of the building broke and fell into flat no. 202. Due to which Manohar Dandekar (age 70 years), his wife Manisha (age 65 years) and son Mayur (age 40 years) suffered serious injuries in their hands, legs, back and waist.

This building is 35 years old. It has been listed as a C-1 dangerous building by the municipality. The municipality said that this building is unsafe and needs to be evacuated and demolished.

After getting information about the slab collapse, fire brigade personnel, Municipality's disaster management team, police reached the spot. About 100 residents living in about 30 flats of the building were evacuated. The injured were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The building has been evacuated and sealed. Some residents have moved to stay with their relatives. The official said that the municipality will decide the further action regarding the building.
